Rebecca Marie Stout Birch, 56, passed away Saturday, June 22 at Church Hill Health Care & Rehabilitation Center with her husband and extended family by her side. She was an inspiration to all who joined her in her courageous fight against breast cancer.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Raymond and Kindois Jordan and her paternal grandparents, Dick and Martha Stout and aunt, Betty Jean Leteff.
Rebecca was born in Knoxville May 23, 1957 and moved to Kingsport with her parents at age 2. St. Paul's Day School provided her early childhood education. She graduated from Dobyns¬Bennett High School and also attended Hiwassee Junior College.
Her marriage to Garry Ardeth Birch was at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 24 years ago. Their faith journey led them to Ridgeview Baptist Church where they became active members and taught first grade Sunday School for ten years. Rebecca's other interests included scrapbooking, shopping, taking care of her rose garden and raising two Bichon Frise affectionately named Ladybug and Doodlebug. She enjoyed watching reruns of old TV series and classic movies and anything featuring Betty Boop. Her greatest loves were God, Garry and her family.
She is survived by her adoring husband, Garry and her parents, Dorman and Mary Ann Stout of Kingsport, brothers Lamarr Stout (wife Susie) Knoxville, Jim Stout (wife Becky B.) Charlotte, NC, nieces Melissa Stout, Bloomington, IN, Sarah Jordan Stout, New York, NY, Abby Stout, Charlotte, NC , nephew James Stout, Boone, NC, a special uncle Ray Jordan, San Antonio, TX, brothers-in-law Dave Birch (wife Fran) Newnan, GA ,Don Birch (wife Shirley) Kingsport, step children Jared Birch, Kingsport and Tara Birch Williams, Kingsport, several cousins and step grandchildren; also, "Ladybug" and "Doodlebug".
A special heartfelt thank you is given to the wonderful nurses and caring staff at Church Hill Health Care & Rehab Center.
A private graveside service will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, June 25 with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 PM at Ridgeview Baptist Church. Pastor Jon Rogers and Father Jay Mills will be officiating. Receiving of friends will be in the church fellowship hall "The Roc" immediately following the memorial service.
