Rebecca "Becky" Squires Bridwell, 81, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014, in Asbury Place at Baysmont.
She resided in Greensboro, NC, until her graduation from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. After graduation, she accepted employment at Eastman in the research labs for nine years as editor of chemical papers. Becky was active in both civic and church affairs in Kingsport. In 1964, she was elected president of American Association of University of Women. She was involved in the Junior League of Kingsport serving as President in 1972-1973. In 1983, she returned to work at Eastman as a training representative with duties developing and teaching various courses. Along with her husband, she enjoyed travel, nature, and bird watching. Becky was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Sheldon and Mamie Whitley Squires, and her brother, Richard Squires.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, James Otis Bridwell; one sister, Betty Martin of Marion, Indiana; one brother, John Squires of Mooresville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Prior to the Memorial Service, entombment will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Mickey Rainwater, Rev. Jack P. Weikel, Rev. J. Spurgeon McCartt, and Rev. John Mullen officiating. Following the Memorial Service, friends will be received at the church.
