N. Reed Hale, 68, Fordtown Road, went to be with the Lord at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born in the Eastern Star Community of Kingsport where he had lived his entire life. Reed worked as a lab analyst at Tennessee Eastman Company retiring in 1994 after 31 years of service. He also farmed his entire life. He was a member of Eastern Star Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. Reed served in the U. S. Army and was a member of Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688 F&AM.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Nathan and Pearl Hale; two sisters, Ora Cox and Onedia Bowser.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Smith Hale, of the home; one daughter, Amy H. Marsh and husband, Kevin, Kingsport; one sister, Ruby Strickler, Kingsport; one brother, Martin Hale, Kingsport; several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Nelson and Rev. George Winegar officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Eastern Star Cemetery. Family and friends should gather at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m.
