Rev. Carl H. Johnson, 89, of Gray, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 21, 2018. He worked for Eastman Kodak and then retired from Holston Defense after 40+ years. He preached and pastored at various churches for 60+ years. A gentle, gracious, godly man, Carl was a man who loved and was loved. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ober and Minnie Clyde Johnson; wife, Minnie Kate Browder Johnson; daughter, Shirley Hardin; sisters, Eunice Gass, Ilene Johnson, Geraldine Simpson; and brothers, J. Fred, Ray, and Coy.
He is survived by his six children, Carl Jr. "Bubby" wife Lynn, Sherman wife Sue, Thurman wife Terry, Sharon husband Rickey, Norman wife Brenda, and Nathan wife Teresa; 15 grandchildren, Dean Jr., Deanna, Kim, Todd, Brian, Christy, Scott, Shannon, Eric, Jessica, Katrina, Marcus, Leann, Cody, and Cory; 26 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ina Kinser husband Don, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may view anytime after 1pm Wednesday or visit the family anytime at his home. The family will receive friends from 4:30 - 7:30pm Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:30pm with Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff and Mike Bays officiating along with memories shared by family.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00pm Thursday at Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons. Those planning to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gideons to help continue to spread God's word as Carl did.
