Rev. J.C. "Jake" Riner, 78, Kingsport, was called home early Tuesday morning, October 21, 2014, at his home. J.C. was born in Sullivan County, TN and had lived in Kingsport for most of his life. He was an employee of AFG, retiring in the late 90's. J.C. pastored at Long Island Evangelical Methodist Church, where he was still serving.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Bert Riner and Rosie Ellen Riner, and several brothers and sisters.
J.C. is survived by his wife, Joann Jones Riner of the home; two daughters, Rhonda Jayne and husband, Daniel of Kingsport, and Donna Collette and husband, David of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Conner, Jacob, Abbey, Chloe and Danielle; two great-grandchildren, Haley and Brae; two sisters, Mrs. Billie Riner Collins of Unicoi, TN, and Suzy Riner Robinette of Illinois; brother, Douglas Grady Riner of Kingport; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday at 11:30 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Ray Bledsoe and Rev. Charley Jarrett officiating.
