Rev. John W. Crawford, 84, went home to be with his heavenly father on February 13, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 27, 1927 in Eccles, West Virginia. John served in the Navy from 1942-1944. The Lord called him to preach in 1958 and he had pastored numerous churches in Kentucky and Tennessee. He had retired from pastoring Walkers Fork Missionary Baptist Church in October 2010 due to illness after serving as pastor for 30 years. John was also a painter and retired from Adams and Little Contractors. He attended Clear Creek Bible School in Pineville, Kentucky. John was a loving husband and loving and caring daddy to his children and grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his beloved son, Dennis P. Crawford; parents, Wesley and Callie Crawford; two sisters, Edith Crawford and Louise Simpson; three brothers, Herbert, June and Carl; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Grace and App Murray.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Callie Murray Crawford; daughters, Connie Crawford of Fall Branch, TN, Donna Jones and husband, Doug of Kingsport, and April Crawford of Kingsport; son, Kenneth Crawford and wife, Fran of Nashville; grandchildren, Kevin Crawford and wife, Nachella, Travis Crawford, Dennis Crawford and wife, Sarah, Elaine and Sean Thomas, Felecia and Scott Barker; great-grandchildren, Pamela Roberts, Callie Crawford, Austin Thomas, Cierra Barker, Amber Barker, Emily Smith, Aiden Barker, Savannah Thomas, Austin Hill, Kaylee Crawford and Isaac Barker; brother, Earl Crawford; sister, Mary Crawford Light; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16th, 2012 from 5-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 on Friday, February 17th at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport with Rev. Paul Purkey and Rev. Gene Mullins officiating. Music will be provided by the Solomon's Temple Quartet.
Interment will follow at Oak Glen Baptist Church Cemetery in Fall Branch. Military graveside rites will be provided by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Crawford, Travis Crawford, Dennis Crawford, Doug Light, Scotty Simpson and Dwain Noel.
