Rev. Maurice Lay

The Reverend Maurice Lay of Bluff City, TN left his earthly home Monday, September 2, 2024. He retired from the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church where he pastored many churches for more than 50 years throughout East TN and SW VA. Rev. Lay touched countless lives, as he served the Lord after answering the call to ministry at age 16. 

Born January 23, 1936 in Corbin, KY, he was preceded in death by his father, Roy (Osha) Lay; mother, Louise (Rodger) Jones; brother, Ralph Wayne Lay; and grandson, Patrick Heath Parsons. 

He is survived by his wife, the love of his life for 67 years, Patsy Tipton Lay; son, David (Linda) Lay; daughters, Kim (Steve) Parsons, Marty (Mark) Gray; sisters-in-law, Ruth Langford, Barbara Yankee; brother-in-law, Danny (Kathy) Tipton; his many grandchildren, Brad Parsons, Lance Parsons (Tasha), Rebekah (Jason) Hodges, Scott Parsons, Megan (Kyle) Mills, Alex (Whitney) Lay, Makenzie (Colin) Dugan, Brad (Kelly) Barker, Ashley Barker; and his great-grandchildren, Sydney Hodges, Savana Parsons, Trinity Parsons, Kelsey Rigoulot, Serenity Parsons, Nolan Moore, Jacob Hodges, Carter Hodges, Layton Hodges, Macey Barker, Ethan Barker, Brighton Mills, Wrenley Mills; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. 

Graveside services will be held, Thursday, September 5, at 1:00 pm at the Mowell Cemetery on Goshen Valley Road Rogersville, TN 37857.

The family wishes to thank the phenomenal caregivers at BRMC this past week. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
