Rev. Wilburn Eugene Wyatt, Jr., 61, of Kingsport went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 2, 2011 following an extended illness. He pastored Barton's Chapel Central Baptist Church but stepped down due to health reasons; he still attended when he could. He loved woodworking, working in flowers and in his garden. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam during two tours.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Aileen Wyatt; two sisters, Brenda and Karen Wyatt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Paul and Inez Nelson.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Vernita "Cookie" Wyatt; son, Anthony Wyatt and wife, Amiee of Kingsport; daughter, Misty Dunne and husband, Simon of Yonkers, NY; granddaughter, Amber Wyatt; brother, Howard "Dude" Wyatt of Kingsport; sister, Zona Wyatt of Kingsport; and uncle Kenneth Wyatt and wife, Charlotte of Church Hill.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Homeland Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Barton's Chapel Central Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Cole and Rev. Jessie Swanner officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Mausoleum with Pastor Tim Risner and Rev. Howard Taylor officiating. Military graveside rites will be provided by the American Legion Posts #3/265.
Pallbearers will be James Hutson, Chris Honeycutt, Tony Bragg, Fred Churchwell, Ralph Norris and Phil Kincer.
