Rhoda Light, 92, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born on September 25, 1919, Rhoda was a lifelong resident of the Beech Creek community and member of Mount Carmel Freewill Baptist Church.
Held in high esteem by her family, friends and the community, Rhoda is remembered as being a faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother, as well as a generous soul who was always there for others in their times of need. Her selflessness, kindness and welcoming nature will truly be missed, but will also serve as an enduring example for all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lena Morrison; her beloved husband of 64 years, Cleva Light; sons, Paul and Charlie; grandsons, Mike Light and Jeffrey Morelock; six brothers; two sisters; and numerous other family members and loved ones.
Surviving her passing and treasuring her memory are daughter, Patsy Light of the home; son, Haskell Light and wife, Laurie of Cocoa Beach, FL; daughter, Wanda Lewis and husband, Skip of Kingsport; son, Cleve Light, Jr. of Beech Creek; son, Elmo Light of the home; daughter, Darlene Fugate of Kingsport; daughter, Debbie Light of Kingsport; son, Dwayne Light and wife, Missy of Merritt Island, FL; brother, James Carl Morrison of Fall Branch; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and various other loved ones and family friends.
The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, August 14th from 6 to 9:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 15th at 2:00 pm at Mount Carmel Freewill Baptist Church in Beech Creek with Brother Dan Dolen officiating.
Graveside services and interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
