Richard Bailey

Richard F. ?Dick? Bailey, 94, Kingsport, died early Thursday morning August 23, 2007, at Wellington Place of Colonial Heights.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and came to work with Tennessee Eastman Company in 1935. Following his move to Kingsport with Tennessee Eastman Company, he joined Dent K. Burk Associates as accountant where he became a CPA. In 1941 he entered into active service with the United States Army, serving in the European Theatre. Following the service, he formed a CPA firm which became Werth, Bailey and McCorkle, CPA. Later, he became treasurer with AFG and was there for a number of years. Dick was a communicant of St. Paul?s Episcopal Church, was a member of American Legion Hammond Post #3 for more than 60 years, working the Fourth of July Parade for many years, was a member of Kingsport Civitan Club, served on the Kingsport Board of Education for 8 years, was a founding member of Ridgefields Country Club, and was an avid golf and tennis player.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John M. Bailey and Ethel Bailey; a brother William Bailey; a sister, Barbara Crosbie; his first wife, Margaret Harrison Agett; and a daughter, Joanna Bailey.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Holder Hargrave Bailey, Kingsport; two daughters, Pat Bailey, Kingsport, Jerry Eppinga and husband, Ernie, Providence Forge, Virginia; one son, Gary Harrison Bailey and wife, Betty, Kingsport; three stepdaughters, Deb Hargrave Hauck and husband Rex, Roswell, Georgia, Teresa Hargrave and husband Tony Daloisio, Washington Depot, Connecticut, and Barbara Hargrave Edwards and husband Ian, Boulder, Colorado; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul?s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Edward James Mills, III officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
