Richard C. Burchette, 71, Kingsport, was called home late Friday evening, January 24, 2014.
He was born in Scott County, Virginia, and had lived in Kingsport for most of his life. Following college, he worked for Hamm Wallace Architects and began his work at Eastman in 1965 where he worked in Engineering and Construction retiring in 1996. Richard became an auctioneer receiving his license in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. He was a life-time member of Gravelly Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He served several years in the U.S. Army Reserve. Richard enjoyed his bridge playing group and the Northeast Tennessee Knife Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Grace Burchette and his brother, Jay Burchette.
Richard is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Vicars Burchette; children, Denise Burchette, Hickory, NC, Scott Burchette & wife, Rhonda, Stockbridge, GA, Kevin Burchette and wife, Andrea, Jonesborough, TN, and Steven Burchette & wife, Sherry, Johnson City, TN; two grandsons, Tim and Corey Casteel; four granddaughters, Rebecca and Jennifer Burchette, Carson and Callie Burchette; brother, Wayne Burchette and wife, Ruth, Kingsport; and four nieces.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. David Ginn and staff, Wellmont CVA and the Wellmont Hospice staff.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Gravelly Baptist Church Ministry Center (old Gravelly Elementary School). The service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor David Salley and Rev. Ralph Crawford officiating.
