Richard "Richie" Fortier, 78, Kingsport, died on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Richard was a great father, grandfather, and friend. He served as a US Marine, then as a US Postal Carrier. Rich was incredibly friendly and sweet with a huge heart. His devotion to his family will forever be admired. He spent many years volunteering for various hospitals, churches, and charities. Rich took such pride in everything he did, from his delicious cole slaw to his work with meals on wheels. He took pleasure in reading, golf, corvettes, motorcycles and caring for others. Rich was so easy to talk to and hardly ever held anything back. The looks he gave will be remembered just as much as his smile.
He was preceded in death by his son Glenn, nearly 3 weeks ago.
Rich leaves behind daughter Denise and husband David; and daughter Marylynn; grandsons Jason, Ryan, Kyler and Kieran; granddaughter Jenna and her husband Yovani; and great-grandsons Jovani and Luca. Finally, he leaves behind his soul mate, his other half, his perfect match, his deeply devoted and loving wife of 31 years, Jeannie.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-6:00 pm and on Friday, from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
