Richard W. Coomer, 82, of Kingsport passed away on October 31, 2015 at Elmcroft Assisted Living.
"I have fought a good fight, kept the faith and paved my road to heaven."
He was born in Appalachia, Virginia and had resided in Kingsport from an early age. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Richard was a member of State Line Baptist Church. He retired from Pave Well Paving as an Equipment Operator and was also a farmer and enjoyed tinkering with stuff and an avid junk collector. He loved spending time with family and especially with his grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Olga Mae Coomer Maness; very special first wife, Anna B. Coomer; second wife, Mary Letha Coomer; raised by maternal grandparents, Charlie and Emma Lou Thacker Coomer; infant daughter, Lucenia Mae Coomer; infant sister, Ruby Maness; infant brother, Jimmy Maness; and brothers, George Monroe Maness and Charles "Buck" Maness.
He is survived by his two daughters, JoAnna Hall and husband Mike, of Kingsport and Tammy Johnson and husband Mike, of Telford ; son, Charles "Chuck" Coomer and wife Dianne, of Church Hill; six grandchildren, Dennis Hall and wife Melissa, of Valrico, Florida, Amber Hughes and husband Kenny, of Kingsport, Amanda Ward and husband Scott, of Kingsport, Shawna Hamilton and husband Greg, of Telford, Charles W. "Chuckey" Coomer, Jr, of Kingsport, and Charles Mike Rock and wife Bethany, of Kingsport; eight special great-grandchildren; Robbie and Elizabeth Hall, Jurnee Faulk, Cheyanna Hamilton, looking forward to new great-grandson Brantlee "Tater Tot" Hamilton, Hayden Ward, Hanna Ward, and special great-granddaughter, Tiahna Conkin; two sisters, Betty Sidwell of Indiana, and Linda Brewer and husband Habern, of Pennington Gap; six brothers, Campbell Maness and wife Sue, Claude Maness and wife Ruth, Reese Maness and wife Vicky, Robert L. Maness, all of Indiana, Sheffy D. Maness and wife Joyce, and David Maness and wife Anne; and sister-in-law Judith "Judy" Maness, all of Dryden, Virginia; and several special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett Dobson, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Morelock officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday 11 a.m. at Liberty Hill with military honors conducted by American Legion 3/265.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to State Line Baptist Church Youth Group.
