Rita Steigerwald Blaney
Rita Steigerwald Blaney, 93, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at The Wexford House following a brief illness. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 5, 1921, a daughter of the late Carl and Agnes Steigerwald, she had resided in Kingsport for the last 8 years, moving from Portage, Indiana. She was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith.
In addition, to her parents she was preceded in death by John Blaney, Jr. her husband of 64 years.
Rita is survived by her four sons, Jim and Sandy Blaney of Portage, IN, Richard "Dick" and Marcella Blaney of Kingsport, John and Margie Blaney of Jonesville, VA, and Keith and Susan Blaney of Cheyenne, WY; six grandchildren, John Eric Blaney, Michael Blaney, Kara Blaney, Daniel Blaney, Stephanie Greener and Beth Larson; great-grandson, John Larson; sister, Teresa Toth and husband, Corky of Maryville, TN; brother, James Steigerwald of Oregon; and sister-in-law, Mary Steigerwald of Lexington, Kentucky.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Wexford House, her friends at Pinebrook Place and Amedysis Hospice.
It was Rita's wish to be cremated.
