Robert Taylor Archer, Jr., 85, Kingsport, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013.
Bob was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, where he worked at Mead Paper as an accountant for 41 years. He graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in 1948 and was a member of the only football team to have a season when all opponents were held scoreless. He later served in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a member of the Engineering Corps.
He was an avid golfer, a member of Meadowview Golf Club, a charter member of the Crossings Golf Club, and a member of Warriors Path Golf Club. He scored two holes in one during his lifetime.
Bob was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, and for years served as a volunteer at the Wellmont Chemotherapy Clinic. He was a 13 year survivor of lung cancer. He was happily married to Connie Bishop Archer for 59 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Taylor Archer; mother, Della Mills Archer; brothers, Harry Preston Archer, Daniel Webster Archer, and Hunter Elmo Archer; sister, Geraldine Archer; and a grandson, Jason David Archer.
Surviving are his wife, Connie Bishop Archer; children, David Byron Archer and wife Pamela Ingram Archer, Pamela Gail Ferlise, and Robert Keith Archer and wife Dana Rose Archer; grandchildren, James Evan Dallas, Jessica Evonne Carlson, Zachary Taylor Ferlise, Justin Daniel Archer, Joshua Dillon Archer, Jennifer Dawn Archer, Drew Taylor Archer, and Hannah Rose Archer; siblings, Aaron Alfred Archer, Buddy Frederick Archer, Emma Lee Gardner, and Betty Brewer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Andrea Davis and Rev. Larry Caylor officiating.
A private family graveside will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
