Robert Luther Brooks, 89, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 5, 2015, surrounded by his family at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Hawkins County, TN, on March 26, 1926, a son of the late Jessie and Mattie Clark Brooks, he had lived in this area his entire life. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy and was one who raised the U.S. flag at Guam. He drove a local route for Texaco Company and later retired from a 28 year career with Roy B. Moore Truck Lines. Robert was a member of Ross Camp Ground United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. He took great joy in his family and also enjoyed his yard, traveling, and driving. Many special times were spent with his family and fond memories will be cherished. He always loved the fellowship, food and laughter at family gatherings. His family enjoyed the stories and experiences he shared with them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James "Jimmy" L. Brooks.

Robert was survived by his wife of 67 years, Gladys Ann Marsh Brooks; four brothers, J.D. Brooks of Easley, SC, Gene Brooks and wife, Ilean of Fairfield, CA, Don Brooks of Church Hill, and Garland Brooks and wife, Shirley of Lake Tapiwingo, MO; and several very special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 to 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Lynn Sorrell officiating and guitar music provided by Dr. Josh Jessee.

Burial will follow at Ross Camp Ground Cemetery with family, friends, and members of Ross Camp Ground Church serving as pallbearers.
