Robert "Buck" Collette, 85, of Kingsport, died Saturday afternoon, November 24, 2018, at home after an extended battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born in Snowflake, VA, he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. Buck graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and was a member of the 1952 State Championship baseball team where he pitched a no hitter in the semi-final game. He later played 2 years for the Kingsport Cherokees. Buck served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Buford Collette.
Buck is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Collette, of the home; four sons, Mark Collette and wife Terry of Kingsport, Barry Collette and wife Lisa of Kingsport, John Collette and wife Tina of Chattanooga, and Neil Collette of North Myrtle Beach, SC; nine grandchildren, Matt, Laura, Austin, John, Andy, Nick, Sydney, Braeden, and Jackson; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara McNally of Kingsport; and brother, Jimmy Collette of Kingsport.
A family graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Rites by The American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105, memorial ID #11445816.
