Robert "R.C." Cannoy

Robert "R.C." Cannoy, 96, a lifetime resident of Kingsport died Sunday, January 11, 2009, at Netherland HealthCare after a period of declining health.

He was born June 4, 1913, graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, and honorably served in the United States Army 96th Signal Corps during World War II. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Company after 40 years of service in research. Mr. Cannoy was a lifetime member of the American Legion and First Broad Street United Methodist Church. His hobbies included gardening, farming, and raising animals.

Preceding him in death were his brothers, Joe Preston, Howard, Frank, and Harry; and a sister, Frances.

Surviving locally are one sister, Virginia Murphy; nieces, Pam Ward and Sharon Frayser; a nephew, Don Cannoy; and special friends, Curtis and Evelyn Hobbs. Also surviving are several out-of-state nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, with Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites by American Legion Post #3/265.

Donations may be made to the Endowment Fund at First Broad Street United Methodist Church, 100 E. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
