Robert Carroll Church, 91, Kingsport, died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Wexford House of Kingsport. Born April 20, 1921 in Hancock County, TN, he enlisted in the Army and served in WWII in the South Pacific. After getting out of the military he started his career at Eastman Kodak in the Research department. He married Juanita Anderson October 2, 1948.
Robert was a member of Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church and later moved his membership to Bethel Presbyterian Church for many years. He moved his membership once more to First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport. He was a member of the Moose Club, American Legion, and the local VFW. He loved to fish, the out of doors and politics. Robert and Juanita traveled across this great country and loved to sightsee around the world. One of his passions was gardening. He was well known for his wonderful sense of humor and down home stories.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James Grover Church and Julia Edens Church, and his brother, Charles Quentin Church.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Juanita Church; one daughter, Robin Church Denison; two grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth Denison and Adam Church Denison; 5 sisters, Edith Wampler and husband Glen, Pauline Gilley, Ethel Carpenter, Marie Mullins, and Agnes Smithson and husband, Tom; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, TN on Thursday April 4th at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the visitation.
