Robert Glenn Greene, of Snowflake, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Ballad Hospice House of Bristol following a period of declining health. Born in Norton, VA, on November 20, 1941, a son of the late Robert and Grace Greene. He graduated from Virginia Tech (formerly VPI) with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Robert married Elizabeth Jane Osborne on December 16, 1963. He worked for Great Lakes Carbon and Raytheon, as well as development of computer systems with Texas Instruments and was a consultant for Oak Ridge Nuclear and NASA. His main emphasis was heat transfer. Robert was a member of the Corps of Cadets VPI. He worked as a private contractor after retiring, working cattle on the family’s farm, and also working as a shepherd with his sheep. Robert had a special interest in history and science. He will be remembered as a loving, devoted husband and father.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Gordon and Nettie Reynolds; and paternal grandparents, Charles and Roberta Greene.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Jane Greene; sons, Bryan Lynn Greene (Jean Anne), Mark Livingston Greene, and Charles Patrick Greene II; grandchildren, Sara Anne Alexander (JT), Grace Elizabeth Greene (Bryan) , Hannah Margaret Greene, Daniel Kenneth Greene (Mikayla), Molly Lauren Greene, and Chloe Rebekah Greene; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Sage Alexander and Sutton Grace Alexander; sisters, Patsy Edwards and Jane Lambert; brothers, Charlie Green and Debra Green, Richard and Sandy Greene, and James and Teresa Greene; brother-in-law, Jim Osborne, John and Gail Osborne; and Richard Partos (husband of the late Shirley); nieces and nephews, Suzanna Hayward, Steve Edwards, David Edwards, Jim Kilgore, Amy Anders, Rebecca Hall, Amanda Harvey, Christy Smith, Jason Green, Garc Osborne, Nathan Osborne, Britton Smith, Andy Osborne, Jerilyn Mitchell, and Jeff Snyder.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary. Family and friends are welcome at Bob and Betty Jane’s home in Snowflake, VA, to visit anytime.
