Robert Hester, 89, Kingsport, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007, following a brief illness.
Born in St. George, SC, he graduated from Clemson University in 1939 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Hester served in World War II with the U. S. Army. He graduated from Princeton University, where he received his Master?s Degree in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Hester retired from Eastman Kodak after 36 years of service as a Senior Chemical Engineer.
He played duplicate bridge and was a Life Master.
Mr. Hester was a member of St. Paul?s Episcopal Church where he taught Sunday School, was a lay reader, usher, and served on various committees.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Springer Hester in 2004 and his brother, Benjamin Franklin Hester.
Surviving are his daughter, Betty Springer Hester of Carriere, MS; sons, Robert Lewis Hester of Atlanta, GA; and David Weeks Hester and wife, Kim of Magnolia, TX; and three grandsons, Garrett Paul Webb, Riley Weeks Hester, and Trent David Hester.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with The Rev. Edward James Mills III officiating.
