Robert Joe Sterling, Sr

Robert Joe Sterling Sr. was lifted up to his heavenly home as on wings of eagles (Isaiah 40:31) in the presence of his loving children on Sunday, June 11, 2016. He was born on March 25, 1943, in McAlister, Oklahoma, to Clyde and Harriett Sterling. Robert was a long-time member of Indian Springs Baptist Church. He loved and served this fellowship. Robert was an avid fisherman, loved to camp and traveled most of the United States. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially Arkansas football, the Atlanta Braves and any and all sports his children and grandchildren were playing.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alexia Walker Sterling; his 3 children, Bob Sterling, Jr. and his wife Pat, Karen Sterling Throp, and Kelly Sterling Weaver; a brother, Thomas Sterling and his wife Patricia; 13 grandchildren, Ben Sterling (Mallory), Dusty Sterling, Alexa Cooper, Rachel Throp Ritter (Greg), Regan Throp Pierce (Jody), Walker Throp (Danielle), Josef Throp (Ashley), Sterling Throp, Gabe Throp, Jordan Weaver (Abby), Lauren Cooper Thompson (Greg), Morgan Cooper Eads (Matt), and Jake Weaver; 11 great-grandchildren; and many, many special and loving long-time friends. Robert will be missed by all, but especially by his beloved dog, Dixie. He knew the blessings of this large family were from the Lord (Psalms 127:5).

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Indian Springs Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at 8 p.m. at the church.

We want to say thank you for the faithfulness of our fellow church members, especially his loving Sunday School staff, Bro. Roc, Bro. Dave and staff during this long illness; to Bill Bartlett and all the "guys" at BAE-who loved and prayed for him; to our neighbors, especially our special "Nurse Jackie"; to Robert and Teresa Parker for their daily commitment to our needs the past few months and to our hospice nurses, who are truly angels in scrubs.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Salvation Army, 505 Dale Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.
