Robert "Bob" Kennedy, 83, Gray, TN, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Kingsport, TN following a brief illness.

Dr. Robert W. Kennedy was born and raised in Tampa, FL. As a young man he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a hospital corpsman. He attended Emory University where he obtained his Ph.D in chemistry and pursued his career at Eastman Chemical Company as an organic chemist.

Bob traveled the world, spoke multiple languages and developed an exceptional talent as an intricate wood carver. He was a unique individual who possessed an uncanny ability to befriend everyone he met with his warm and friendly style. In his later years, Bob settled in Gray, TN with wife Lois where they shared a passion for dancing, spending time with friends and each other.

He was an active member in the Boone's Creek United Methodist Church. He will be remembered not for all he did in this world, but for who he was, a remarkable human being.

His son, Mark David Kennedy, and brother, Fred Kennedy preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his wife, Lois Roba Kennedy; two stepsons, Richard Tittsworth and his wife Shelia and Mike Roba; two stepdaughters, Andra Roba Savage and Sharon Tittsworth Johnson; three grandchildren, Erin, Sean and Patrick Kennedy, as well as a niece, Patricia Ann Kennedy and nephews, Jim Kennedy, Fred Kennedy, and Charles Kennedy. Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Calling hours are 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ken Lytton officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to Boone's Creek United Methodist Church, 110 Mary Street, Johnson City, TN 37615.
