Robert "Bob" Edward McNutt

Robert “Bob” Edward McNutt, 99, passed away from this life to his heavenly home on Tuesday,
January 21, 2020.  Bob was born in Blackwood, VA and had lived most of his young adult life in Hiltons, VA.  Later, his family moved to the Lynn Garden vicinity of Kingsport.  Bob was a WWII Army Veteran who proudly served his country in the 825th Tank Destroyer Battalion.  He was stationed in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge in France, Belgium, and Germany.  He was awarded with the following:  European, African Middle-Eastern Theater medal with four bronze stars, Good Conduct Medals, WWII Victory Medal, plus an American Theater Ribbon.  After his discharge in 1945, Bob served in the Reserves until 1948.

Bob was extremely skillful in the plastering trade and helped in building numerous landmarks in the Tri-Cities Area (including Holston Valley Community Hospital and Indian Path Medical Center).  For 25 years, he was a member of the Operative Plasterers and Cement Mason’s Int’l Association, and was employed as a Vocational Training Instructor in the plastering section at the Flatwoods Job Corp in Coeburn, VA.  After retiring in 1996 at the age of 75, his most enjoyable hobby was growing a vegetable garden and doing yard work.  Bob was an avid animal lover and had rescued several pets during his lifetime.  ‘Suzy’, his devoted cat, followed him everywhere.

He married Ruth Stallard in June, 1951 and had two daughters, Pam and Gail.  At the age of 84, Bob gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized.  This was an awesome miracle in our family.  Bob and Ruth had been members of Bethel Apostolic Church for over 25 years.  Bob was a devoted husband and a wonderful, caring Dad.  Due to his many out-of-town job assignments, he would always bring ice-cream treats home on Friday nights for his young daughters.  He will be sadly missed by his family.

The family would like to extend special recognition for the following people:  Dr. David Franzus for his dedication and care shown to our Dad down through the years, Amedisys Hospice Care, special heartfelt thanks extended to Cathy, Joanie, and Tiffany, and to Ted Collins for his faithful friendship to our Dad, and especially for the prayers and visits during his sickness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, C.W. and Clara McNutt; four brothers (Ernest, Cecil, Elmo, Carson, Jr.); and one sister, Alice Carroll.

Surviving are his two daughters:  Pam Pairgin (husband, Alan) and Gail Marshall (husband, David); plus, several nieces and one nephew.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Bethel Apostolic Church, 1820 Pinebrook Dr., Kingsport, TN.  A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rick Collins, Minister officiating and Alan Pairgin speaking.  Music will be provided by the singers and musicians of the church.

Burial will be in Holston View Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.  Military Honors will be accorded by The American Legion, Hammond Post 3 and Gate City Post 265.  Those attending the committal service are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 am Saturday and then proceed to the cemetery.  Pallbearers will be men of the church.
