Robert "Poody" Stevens, 64, of Fall Branch, passed away at home on July 25, 2011, and is now at peace after a long illness. He was a life-long resident of Fall Branch and a veteran of Vietnam and proudly served his country.
Robert was awarded the Purple Heart when wounded in a successful rescue mission that included his friend, Dean Tucker. He was retiree of Tennessee Eastman, where he had many friends in the 267 crew of Organic Chemicals. Robert had made a profession of faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Grover Stevens; an infant brother; brother, Courtney "Buck" Stevens; sister, Nelly "Sis" Stevens-Fletcher; and foster mother, Ms. Nelly White.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Tomlinson Stevens; mother-in-law, Wilma Jean Tomlinson; aunt, Ruby Stevens; several cousins and friends; and his faithful T.V. companion, Buddy.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson, Fall Branch, on Wednesday, July 27, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Randy Perciful and Lowell Phillips officiating. Music will be provided by Judy Duncan and cousins Lowell and Zada.
A military graveside service will be conducted by American Legion Posts #3/265, on Thursday, July 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will be meeting at 10 a.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Fall Branch, to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family requests that monetary donations be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, 127 Dillon Ct., Gray TN 37615 or non-perishable food donations may be brought to the funeral home on Wednesday, July 27. Monetary donations may also be made to the Fall Branch Fire Department, 106 Ruritan Road, Fall Branch TN 37656-1833.
