"I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations." Psalm 89:1
Robin S. Cobb, 55, of Kingsport, was welcomed into the arms of her precious Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 31, 2015.
She was born in Kingsport, graduated from Lynn View High School, and received an Associates Degree in Nursing from Walters State Community College. From an early age, Robin had a desire to help the ill. She served as a Candy Striper at Holston Valley Hospital during her high school years. Later in her career in the medical field, she worked at Medex Laboratories, Holston Valley Medical Center, and for Dr. Ronald Hunter.
Robin was a faithful servant of her Lord, having been saved at an early age. Throughout her entire life, she proclaimed to people the Gospel of Christ and sang of His praises. She was a member for many years of Visions Free Will Baptist Church, where she devotedly served in many different capacities, including Sunday school teacher, piano player, song leader, Bible school teacher, and soloist. Most recently, she was a member of Eastern Star Free Will Baptist Church.
Her life was truly a living testimony to the mercies of Jesus Christ. During her time spent at both Wellmont Hospice House and Wexford House, Robin continually declared to all she would meet how Christ has saved her and how He could do the same for them. It was her heart's desire for all to be included in the family of God. She continually praised the Lord for allowing her to minister to the other residents, the staff, and her family throughout the duration of her illness. She reassured all of a good outcome of her illness by singing a song that explained how she felt: "I'll have my healing here below, or life forever if I go; Oh, Praise the Lord, I'm a winner either way."
Robin was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Carl R. Darnell and Alma "Jewel" Darnell.
She is survived by her son, Jason Conkin; grandchildren, Tiahna Conkin, Hannah Conkin, and Josh Cody; step-children, David Cobb and Tracy Wilkins; several step-grandchildren; brother, Chris Darnell and wife, Becky; sister, Samantha Darnell; niece, Tramara Helmick and husband, Whitney; nephew, Seth Arnold; and special friends and sisters in Christ, Robyn Ringley and Patty Quillen.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 to 12 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12 pm with Rev. Curtis Hurt and Rev. Harlan McDavid officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of both Wexford House and Wellmont Hospice for their extraordinarily compassionate and tender care for our precious Robin during her illness. Also, special thanks to Dr. Ronald Hunter and wife Jennifer for their many years of care and friendship to not only Robin but the entire family.
