Roger Bear, 62, formerly of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. Roger began a long career in the food service industry by working with his family at the Village Restaurant. He more recently was a district manager with Houchens Food Service. Roger loved the Lord and spent time doing missionary work in the church and around the world. He loved to golf, watch the Atlanta Braves and U.T. Vols football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edith Bear.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Alexandria Bear; son, Matthew Bear; granddaughter, Macy Bear; sister, Lorainne Clark of Alpharetta, GA; brothers, Steve Bear of Atlanta, and Dennis Bear of Fall Branch; and several nieces, nephews and cousins and his little dog, Katie.
Special thanks should go to the Holston Valley ER staff for their tireless effort in his care.
The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 pm on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 pm with Rev. Ron Lee and Rev. Cody Green officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Bear, Matt Bear, Christian Lucas, Shaun Dick, Rev. Steve Pate and Jason Abernathy.
In lieu of flowers it would please the family and Roger that donations be made to Calvary Church, 178 Pickens Bridge Rd., Johnson City, TN 37615, toward the furtherance of the gospel.
