An angel came to escort Roger Max Burchfield to his home on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
He was a native of Jefferson County, where he graduated from Jefferson High School. Roger was saved in 1960 at Bethel Baptist Church in New Market and baptized in Cherokee Lake. He was a member of Oak Glen Baptist Church in Fall Branch.
Roger spent his career in sales in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, and Western North Carolina with several different companies culminating in ownership of his own business, Roger's Food Servicea"from which he retired to care for his beloved wife, Mary Frances. He was determined to care for her himselfa"to the amazement of those around hima"and was credited by her doctors for providing "tender loving care" which sustained her for over 77 years. They will be celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary together in Heaven on 3/31/12.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Frances Burchfield, who passed away January 12, 2012; their son, Scott Burchfield; parents, Cecil and Mabelle Rogers Burchfield; brother, Bill Burchfield; and in-laws, Cecil and Ina Baskette of Talbott.
He is survived by daughter, Debbie Begley Jimmy; granddaughter, Tasha Ratliff; grandsons, Jimmy and Scott Begley; daughter, Gina Burchfield and granddaughters, Rachel and Ciara Thacker of Fall Branch; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Whitson John of Clinton; uncle, Fred Burchfield Clarice of Talbott; and aunt, Lu Hinchey Jim of Jefferson City.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all that have helped over the last few months for their special care of their Father.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch. Services will follow visitation with Rev. Harold Morelock officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
