Roger W. Conkin, Sr., 66 of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2008, at his residence.
He was a native of Kingsport and part owner in Conkin Corporation, which owned and operated school buses for the Sullivan County School System. His hobbies included horse training, fishing, hunting, and a variety of other sports including watching all the U.T. football games.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bernice Conkin; and a brother, Raymond Conkin.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Ann, of the home; daughter, Amanda Lawrence and husband Jeremy of Kingston, Georgia; sons, Roger W. Conkin Jr. and Jerame Kite both of Fall Branch; grandchildren, Chase and Trevor Lawrence, Morgan and Maggie Kite; sister, Jeanette Flemister and husband Carl of Little Rock, Arkansas; brothers, Michael Conkin and wife Linda of Kingsport, Anthony Conkin and wife Joyce of Knoxville, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Conkin of Kingsport; stepdaughters, Robin York and husband Robert of Mount Carmel, TN, Susan Wright and husband John of Milan, Italy; step-grandchildren, Levi and Ginny Wright, Alicyn and Ashlyn York; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends at the home any time and at Sullivan Baptist Church Friday from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church with Pastor Jeff Strong and Rev. Robert York officiating. Eulogy will be given by his brother, Anthony Conkin.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert York, Boyd Cyphers, Anthony Conkin, Mike Conkin, Phillip Flemister, Wendell Flemister, and Lt. Col. John Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren - Morgan, Maggie, Chase, and Trevor, and step-grandchildren - Levi, Ginny, Alicyn, and Ashlyn.
