Roger Matthew Harmon, of the Rock Springs Community, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 8, 2011.
Roger was born on April 8, 1950 in Columbia, SC. He was a carpenter and roofer by trade. He loved his wife and enjoyed spending time with her and when his health permitted, attending flea markets, cooking and serving the chapel at the Haven of Mercy in Johnson City. He is now in a perfect body residing in Heaven in the presence of the Lord whom he loved dearly.
Roger is the son of the late Jesse and Madalyn Harmon.
He leaves behind to mourn his death, his wife and best friend, Angela Harmon "Thank you honey, for always being my rock throughout my pain and suffering; I love you." and also his dog, "Cody" of the home. Other survivors include his children: Heidi Robinson and husband, O'Neil of Lake City, FL, Carl Harmon and wife, Jennifer, Shane Harmon, Steven Harmon and wife, Rachel, all of Yulee, FL, Leann Kitchens of Calahan, FL; eleven grandchildren; mother and father-in-law, whom he loved as mom and dad, Janie and Larry Sentelle of Kingsport; brother-in-law, David Hubbard and wife, Tina and special niece Taylor Hubbard of Fall Branch.
The family will receive friends anytime at 270 West Valley Drive, Kingsport and also from 2-4 pm on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The service will begin at 4 pm with Pastor Jim Mullins officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 am on Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend may meet at the cemetery at 10:45 am. Roger was a Vietnam Veteran war hero proudly serving his country for six years and two tours in Vietnam. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Posts #3/265 and the Vietnam War Veterans of America.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, memorial contributions will be greatly appreciated to help Angela take care of funeral expenses.
