Roger Moore Schulken, Jr., 87, of Kingsport passed away Monday, September 17, 2007, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 1920 to Roger and Mildred Deppe Schulken. Mr. Schulken was a graduate of the University of North Carolina with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry. In 1984 he retired from Tennessee Eastman Company as a Senior Research Associate after 40 years of service. His professional affiliations included the American Chemical Society, American Physics Society, and the Society of Rheology. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church serving as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School teacher. Community service included the Jaycees, Kiwanis Club, and Ridgefields Country Club. His hobbies included tennis and photography.
Surviving are his wife, Marie P. Schulken, Kingsport; a daughter, Jean S. Harley and husband, Larry, Abingdon, Virginia; a son, Roger M. Schulken, III and wife, Cyndi, Woodlands, Texas; seven grandchildren, Elise, Jeremiah, Anne Kathryn ?Kat?, Austin, Jeanie, Beth, and Gene; one great-grandson, Dominic; a sister, Mildred Smith and husband, Ben, Kingsport; and a brother-in-law, Charles R. Pitts, Kingsport.
There will be a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle, and Rev. L. Craig Foster officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial services at the church.
