Romless Paul "Hinkle" Johnson, 66, of Kingsport, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 22, 2010.
He was born on December 9, 1943, in Kingsport. He served in the U.S. Army. He was very much a "people person", having never met a stranger, and was loved by all who knew him.
Hinkle was a carpenter and master woodcraftsman. He was a member of Arcadia Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a singer and musician, and played bass for the Vermonters. He enjoyed serving the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rachel Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Bernice Johnson; three sons, James Richard "Rick" Johnson and wife Mechille, Matthew Paul Johnson, and Michael David Johnson; two grandchildren, Beth and Callie Johnson; brothers, Gary Johnson and wife, Charlotte, of Kingsport, and Glen Johnson and wife, Doris, Longview, Texas; a sister, Sharon Vest, of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Arcadia Presbyterian Church. Services will follow at 7:00, with Rev. John Irwin and Rev. Larry Stallard officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens in Blountville.
