Ron George

Ron George

Ron George was born in Burley, Idaho, on October 20th, 1960. He died at home unexpectedly on March 15th, 2016. Ron grew up in Portales, graduated from Portales High School, where he was an outstanding student academically, all-state in football and state champion in the pole vault in which he held the school record for many years. He graduated from Eastern New Mexico University and worked in Dallas, Texas, for the Baptist Annuity Board for years. He was of the Baptist faith. Relocating to Tennessee, Ron worked for Sprint, and retired from KVAT. He served on the Kingsport Board of Education and was instrumental in the building of John Adams Elementary School. He served as President of the Ridgefields Homeowners Association and coached many rec basketball teams. He enjoyed travel, a good cigar, working in the yard and spending time with his wife and boys.

Preceding him in death was his father, J.R. George.

Survivors include his wife of almost thirty years, Colette George, and two sons, Joshua George, of Taos, New Mexico, and Val George of Piney Flats. Also surviving are his mother, Barbara George of Portales, New Mexico, sister, Tina Lee and her husband, Bruce of Leveland, TX, brother-in-law, Ted Glynn and his wife, Beth, sister-in-law, Jenne Watson and her husband, Edison, in-laws - Valerie Joh and Bill Glynn, uncle, Ron Edwards, close cousin Harold George and wife Kerri, seven wonderful nieces, and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The visitation will be Saturday from 2 pm until 5 pm First Broad Street United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow the visitation at the church with The Rev. Jack P. Weikel and Rev. Joe Green officiating.. A family graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to DB Soccer Boosters in the care of Tim Bass at 1024 Parham Place, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to the Ridgefields Garden Club in care of Amanda Martin at 1001 Huntington Court, Kingsport, TN 37660.
