Ronald R. Light, Sr., 80, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 13, 2018.
He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett in 1956, and he received his BS from
ETSU and his Masters from UT, Knoxville. He was an active member of Kingsley United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. Ronald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves where he retired as Lt. Colonel after over 30 years of service. He retired from TEC after 35 years of service.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. William "Bill" and Vernie Light and his brother, Doug Light.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirlene Black Light; son, Rick Light and wife, Carmen; daughter, Sandy Light Smith and husband, Roger; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Alex and Morgan Smith, and Matthew Light; brother, Phil Light and wife, Pat of Kernersville, NC; sister-in-law, Joyce Light of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Adam Love officiating and music by John Powers.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Posts 3/265. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kingsley United Methodist Church, 2828 Bloomingdale Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660.
