Ronnie Laws, 48, of Kingsport, after a courageous battle with cancer, was called home to be with the Lord on July 9, 2009. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Laws was a 1979 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ollie and James Ferguson; paternal grandparents, Geneva Winkle and Herman Hale; uncles, Clifford, James, Jack, Leonard, and Gene Ferguson; and a grandson, Benjamin Cleek.
Mr. Laws is survived by his wife of 15 years, Kathy Laws; three daughters, Christy Cleek and husband Andy, Michelle Russell and fiancé Sam Hale, and Shelley McKenzie and husband Willie; four grandchildren, Trenton and Tybo McKenzie, Cooper Cleek, and Haley Russell; parents, Robert and Leota Laws; sister, Sharon Gilreath and husband Andy; brothers, Johnny Copas and wife Marti and Tony Laws and wife Teresa; mother-in-law Phyllis Moore; father-in-law, Buster Carter and wife Mary Ann; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kim Quillen and husband Marty, Fred Moore, Mike Carter, and Jeff Carter; several aunts and uncles; nieces, Paige Copas and Jennifer Manis; nephews, Drew Gilreath, Hunter and Anthony Laws, Jason Hammonds, and Corey Copas; and his life-long friend, Ricky "Keyball" Key. He also leaves behind his two little side buddies his dogs, Hershey and Snuggles.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Brian Capps officiating.
Burial will be on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Anthony Laws, Hunter Laws, Andy Gilreath, Andy Cleek, Mike Soloman, Jason Hammonds, Ricky Key, and Willie McKenzie.
