Rosaline Phillips Lynch of Kingsport, 91 years of age, passed away on August 29, 2018. She was the daughter of Senator Thomas C. and Lucile F. Phillips of Abingdon, Virginia. She was raised in Abingdon Virginia and graduated from William King High School in 1945.
She was a 1949 graduate of Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia and studied law at the University of Virginia. She was admitted to the Virginia bar after passing the required examination in the law. In December 1951, she married Captain Ashby Lynch of Lebanon, Virginia, whom she met while teaching at Lebanon High School. Rosaline devoted her life to her home and raising four children. They lived in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, in Maryland and finally Kingsport, Tennessee where Ashby Lynch was employed as a civil engineer finishing his career with the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Rosaline was baptized and confirmed in the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon, Virginia. She joined the Methodist Church after marrying Ashby Lynch. She has been a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport for almost 40 years. Throughout the years, she enjoyed participating in church activities and reading devotional works by Christian authors such as a work by Rev. Charles Allen focusing on the 23rd Psalm. She was also a member of the Virginia Club in Kingsport, TN.
She was preceded in death by husband Ashby B. Lynch, Sr.
Rosaline is survived by their children, Thomas B. Lynch, Ashby B. Lynch Jr. and wife Anne, Jean L. Leonard, and husband Mark, and Daniel P. Lynch and wife Joan; grandchildren, Laura Mace and husband Tim, Caroline Burks and husband Will, Grace Leonard, Matthew Leonard, Sarah Lynch, Benjamin Lynch and Polly Lynch and brother Thomas C. Phillips Jr. and wife Eugenia.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randall Frye and the Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating.
Burial will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. at West Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, VA.
