R. Rod Horton, 73, Kingsport, went to be with his precious Lord on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Indian Path Medical Center following an extended illness.
Our sweet husband, father, and grandfather was born in Pennington Gap, Virginia, but resided most of his life in Kingsport. He graduated from Lynn View High School and retired from Eastman Kodak following 35 years of service. Rod was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was very active in church, county, and volunteer missions. He and his wife, Dot, have spent the last 10 years serving throughout the United States as volunteer missionaries with Mobile Missionary Assistance Program.
His parents, George and Lelia Horton, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Dot Horton, Kingsport; two daughters, Becky H. Taylor and husband, Terry L, of Chillicothe, Ohio, Rhonda H. Carver and husband, Brooks, of Jonesborough; four grandchildren, Jonathan Taylor and wife, Mackenzie, David Taylor, Andrew Taylor, and Rachel Taylor; two step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren; one brother, George Horton of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Praise services will follow Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Dr. Greg Burton officiating.
