Rose Alma McCrary

Rose "Alma" McCrary, 90, of Fall Branch went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 29, 2014 in the early morning hours at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after several years of declining health.

She was born in the Jearoldstown community of Greene County on April 24, 1924 to Joel and Alice Thornburg. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith, loved preaching and gospel singing. As long as her health permitted she enjoyed working in her flower gardens and taking care of her roses.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Brenda Long where she had lived since 2003.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Mack McCrary (1991); two sons: Roy Dewayne McCrary (2002); infant son: Junior Mack McCrary (1947); six brothers: Carl, Willie, Clemer, Thomas, Berthol and an infant brother, Earnest Thornburg; five sisters: Opal McAmis, Leona Drain, Maude Lucas, Mary Richards and a half-sister, Jeanie Walker.

She is survived by a daughter Brenda Long of the home; one son: Thomas Eutsler of Ashville, NC; grandsons: Tim Long, Anthony McCrary and Keith McCrary; granddaughters: Tonya Padgett, Lisa Johnson, Lorie Clark, Kristi Eutsler; step-granddaughters: Chris Summers and Rhonda Porter; step-grandson: Scott Long; former son-in-law: Jim Long; former daughter-in-law: Charlotte McCrary; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, December 1, 2014 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch from 6-8 p.m. Services will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Ronnie Baxter officiating. Graveside services will he held Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Walker Long, Bobby McAmis, Charlie Davenport, Eddie Charlton, David Richards and Mickey Charlton.

Honorary Pallbearers are Leonard Summers, Allen Porter, Johnny Thornburg, James Padgett, Billy McAmis, Deedie Barrett, Efferd Barrett, Jason Barrett and Dr. Rufus Breckenridge.

The family would like to say a special "Thank you" to the nurses and hospice at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital on W-3 and to the staff at Holston Manor for the loving care shown to Alma. A special thanks to Dr. Rufus Breckenridge of Greeneville and his nurses Jeannette, Elizabeth and Mary for their many years of care. The family would also like to send a special thanks to Betty Britton for being her caregiver for many years.
