Roxie L. Tunnell

Roxie L. Tunnell, 99, of Kingsport, went home to the Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2013, in the comfort of her own home.

Born in Greene County, she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. She retired from Rental Uniform after more than twenty-five years of service. Roxie has been an active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church for over 60 years. She loved to spend her free time playing bingo, cards, and attending ladies bible studies.

Roxie married the love of her life, Burley Tunnell in 1939. They shared 34 wonderful years of marriage before she became widowed in 1973.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burley Tunnell; and infant daughter, Jeweldean; her parents, Gilbert and Mary Jane Brown; five brothers, Lawrence, Cecil, Carl, Dewey, and Dayton; and one sister, Opal Tunnell.

Surviving are her son, Burley Tunnell; daughter, Brenda Simpson and husband, George; granddaughter, Shelia Bingham and husband, Donnie; great-granddaughter, Stephany Lyons and husband, Johnathan; great-great-grandson, Cameron Lyons, all of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

We want to send special thanks to Roxie's friends and family for the prayers and to the wonderful ladies of Smoky Mountain Hospice that cared for her.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Pleasant View Baptist Church. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker and Dr. Amos Lockhart officiating.

Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Providence Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
