Roy Edward Golden, 76, passed away in his sleep on July 7, 2015. He was born on November 12, 1938 in Sebring, Florida. Roy was a kind and giving person and always wanted to help people. He retired from the University System of Georgia, working for many years as a guidance counselor and psychology professor at Darton College in Albany, Georgia. Roy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as a Bishop while in Albany. He moved to Kingsport from Albany soon after his retirement in 2000 to be closer to his family. Roy was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by one brother, Dempsey Golden of Ludowici, Georgia, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his seven children: Sheri Andrews, of Silverdale, Washington, and her four children and four grandchildren, David Golden and wife, Jennifer of Kingsport, their six children and two grandchildren, Lori Mayette and husband, Don of Vancouver, Washington and their two children, Troy Golden and wife, Glyna of Leesburg, Georgia and their son, Todd Golden and wife, Melissa of Kingsport and their five children, Joseph Golden and wife, Mariah of Kingsport and their three children, and Amy Golden of Atlanta, Georgia and her two children.
There will be a viewing from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, July 10, at the LDS chapel (100 Cannongate Road off Netherland Inn) with services to follow directly at 7:00 pm with President Sean McMurray officiating. There will also be a short graveside service on Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 am at the Oak Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) of Sullivan County at 150 Blountville Bypass, Blountville, TN 37617.
