Roy Marvin Taylor, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center from injuries sustained from a fall. Born November 9, 1927 in Slant, VA to the late Roy Mitchell and Cornelia Starnes Taylor, he came to Kingsport in 1950.
In 1947, Marvin began his career with Mead Paper, retiring in 1990 after 43 years of service. Marvin was drafted into the army in 1952-1954, serving his country during the Korean War, and was stationed with Corp 503 Signa in Karlsrushe, Germany for 16 months. He was also a member of UCT, VFW Post 9754, and American Legion Post 0003382. Marvin was a long time member of Gravely Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the Choir and serving as a Yoke Fellow.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Billie Brickey Taylor (2009).
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Karen Taylor Fisher and husband, David; son, Mark A. Taylor and wife, Teresa; grandchildren, Ashley Jessee and husband, Chad; Kaci Shelton, Lyndsay McCray and husband, Ben, Andy Taylor and wife, Malia, Daniel Taylor and wife, Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Seth Taylor; his dog, Buster; and special friends, Betty Jones and Neal Waterman.
The family will receive friends, Monday, August 24, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will immediately follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor David Salley officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 25 at 11 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by post 3/265.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ted Brickey, Bob Brickey, Carlos Dickerson, Harold Derrick, Gary Winegar, Glen Templeton, and all of his buddies at Betty's Stockyard Café.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home No Kill Animal Shelter, 2061 Hwy 75 in Blountville, TN; Sullivan County Animal Shelter, 380 Masengill Rd, Blountville, TN 37617; and Veterans of Foreign Wars, 830 Minga Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663.
