Ruble "Junior" Baskett, 78, of Jonesborough, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 8, 2009, at his home following an extended illness.
He was a retired farmer and retired from Holston Mills in February, 1993, after 32 years of service. Mr. Baskett was a member of the local Teamsters 549, where he served as Union Steward. He enjoyed horseback riding, baseball, and car racing. More importantly, he enjoyed attending church and being with his family and friends. He was the type of man who would do anything for anyone, and never met a stranger.
He was of the Baptist faith, and accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and attended Cornerstone Fellowship Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruble and Eva Baskett, and an infant son, Jack Russell Baskett.
His survivors include his wife of 21 years, Geraldine "Jerrie" Baskett, Jonesborough;, a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Jerry Weston, Kingsport; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Cindy Baskett, Jonesborough; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Tammy and Randall Wines and Tonya and Duane Phillips; one stepson and step daughter-in-law, Eddie and Tonya Speers, all of Jonesborough; four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and one step great-granddaughter, three sisters, Lorna Evans, of Chuckey, Wilma Baskett and Geneva Murray of Jonesborough; two brothers, Paul Baskett of Blountville, and Mike Baskett of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 0 8:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Fellowship Church.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Fellowship Church with Rev. Harold Morelock and Rev. Ronnie Baxter officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ben Tittsworth, Ted Brice. Donnie Willis, David Bright, Allen Evans, and Junior Grills.
