Ruby Bruner Baxter, of Fall Branch, departed this life on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center at the age of 89. She had fought a courageous battle with cancer and had received the report that she was cancer free on March 26th. She had the faith that God would heal her and he did, but it still was time for God to call her home. Ruby was a retiree of Eastman where she had 35 years of dedicated service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denzil Baxter; father, Thomas Bruner; mother, Maggie Bruner; brother, Robert Bruner; sisters, Vesta Allen, Martha Wallace and Velma Fields; a half-sister, Leota Wacks; and nephew, Jackie Fields.
Ruby is survived by four sisters, Mary Goodman of Moorseburg, Bobbie Skelton of Church Hill, Lula Jones of Kingport and Odetti Blank and husband, Blaine of Maryland; brother-in-law, Billy "Buck" Baxter and wife, Jean of Fall Branch; and sisters-in-law, Hazel Pratt and husband, J.R., and Audrey McLain Baxter, all of Kingsport;
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Brother Ed. McLain and Rev. Dennis H. Spears officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 am at Chimney Top Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice.
