Ruby Price Onkotz, 90, of Kingsport, died at her home Sunday, December 5, 2010 surrounded by her family and friends. She was a charter member of the Women of the Moose, Ladies Auxiliary VFW, St. Dominic Guild and St. Dominic Catholic Church. Ruby also volunteered at the Red Cross and was an office manager for Doctors Vermillion, Brookshire & Slocum, and also for Dr. Cowden. Ruby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Paul Onkotz; four brothers, Troy Price, Tam Price, Tom Price, Jack Price; four sisters, Callie Hall, Ruth Higgenbthem, Gracie Price, Joan Maupin; grandson, Charles Onkotz; and her niece, Sharon Price Brinkman.
Survivors include her daughter, Anne Shaffer and husband, Lynn Sr. of Kingsport; two sons, Phil Onkotz, Sr. and wife, Judy of Johnson City, Stephen Onkotz, Sr. and wife, Rita of Kingsport; eight grandchildren, Theresa Ahearn, Phil Onkotz, Jr., Stephen Paul Onkotz, Jr., Andy Cash, Christopher Cash, Lynn Shaffer, Jr., Joshua Shaffer, Sara Beth Shaffer; nine great-grandchildren, Megan and Kristen Ahearn, Parker and Peyton Onkotz, Jonah and Ruby Onkotz, Addy Cash, Will Shaffer and Marlee Shaffer; a brother, Charles Price of Lake Placid, FL; several nieces and nephews; and her dog Sweetie.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Father Mike Nolan, and Deacon Bob Lange officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those planning to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11:45 a.m.
Pallbearers are Phil Onkotz, Jr., Stephen Paul Onkotz, Jr., Andy Cash, Christopher Cash, Lynn Shaffer, Jr., and Josh Shaffer.
A special thanks to her grandson, Andy for his loving devotion and care. The family would also like to thank the nurses on the 2nd floor CCU at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
