Ruby Allen Parsons, 93, went to be with the Lord, Monday, December 5, 2011.
Ruby was born April 5, 1918, in Wagoner, North Carolina. She came to Kingsport in 1940 and worked at the Kingsport Press before meeting her future husband, H. Marvin Parsons to whom she was married for 54 years before his death in 1995.
She had been a member of the First Baptist Church Kingsport since she came to Kingsport and loved going to church and Sunday school class as long as she could drive. Ruby was also a member of the Survivors Club of Kingsport. She loved playing bridge, helping with school activities, and visiting with friends and neighbors and growing flowers.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Marian Allen and Virginia Dare Bard Allen and her loving husband, H. Marvin Parsons.
She is survived by her only daughter, Mary Parsons Biddle and Mary's husband, James M. Biddle; two step-granddaughters, Jennifer Ott and her husband, Robert and with their new baby, Joseph Daniel Ott of Memphis, Tennessee, and Cindy Biddle of Nashville, Tennessee; two brothers, Clifton Allen and wife, Ruby and children, Mary Carolyn and James Allen of Ash County, North Carolina, and Branard Allen of Mt. Airy, North Carolina and with his son and wife, Robert and Kathy Allen. She is also survived by her niece Cheryl Kay Ross and husband, Danny of Somerset, Kentucky, and very special friend, Diane Pope of Kingsport.
The family is grateful to all of her friends and neighbors that continued to visit and care for her, as well as all of the caregivers at Asbury Place and Health South in Kingsport, Shannondale Nursing Home and Avalon Hospice in Knoxville.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 8, 2011 from noon - 1:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Ron Davis and Rev. Mitchell M. Whisnant officiating.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mike McGinn, Danny Ross, Joel Jones, Mike Cox, and Charles Montford. Honorary pallbearers will be Ruddy Greear, Mark Cox, Gary Cox, Ed Herrington and Billy Flanary.
