Ruby Joyce Proffitt

Ruby Dobbs Proffitt, 80, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 2, 2014, with her family by her bedside. She cherished every moment she spent with her family and friends. Ruby was born in McVeigh, KY and lived her younger years in Norton, VA. She had lived in Kingsport for the past 51 years. Ruby attended Gravely Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Nealie Dobbs; brothers, Lee Dobbs, Ed Dobbs and Bill Dobbs; and sisters, Jeanette Jones and Betty Fultz Large.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Doug Proffitt; daughter, Teresa Blair and husband, Keith; son, Douglas Proffitt and wife, Kathy; sisters, Margaret Bolling and Dorothy Beason; three grandchildren, Ray Blair, Melinda Wilcox and Matthew Proffitt; and five great-grandchildren, Travis Blair, Ava Wilcox, Drake Wilcox, Aaron Blair and Austin Proffitt.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Indian Path Medical Center, Intensive Care Unit, for the wonderful care they provided to Ruby.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-6:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor David Salley officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday at 1:30 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ray Blair, Matthew Proffitt, Travis Blair, Justin Wilcox, Keith Blair and Rufus Beason.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
