Ruby Estelle McKenzie Sandidge, 88, life-long resident of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday, November 6th 2012 at Indian Path Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born on May 21, 1924, she was the daughter of Frank and Anna Larkin McKenzie. She was the oldest member of Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church at the time of her death. Ruby devoted her life to loving and raising her family. We have all been so blessed by her love and influence on our lives and will greatly miss her being with us. We love you, Nana Ruby.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 38 years, Tom Sandidge; brothers, Pete and Bill McKenzie; mother-in-law, Ada Sandidge; and sisters-in-law, Mary Winegar, Pauline Bellamy and Edith McKenzie.
Surviving Ruby are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Larry Carrier of Kingsport; son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Amy Sandidge of Queen Creek, AZ; grandchildren, Kevin Bennett and Christy Blair; Nicole and Jason Bledsoe; Lindsey and Jason Philpott; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Reagan Bledsoe, Ali Bennett, Whitney and Jack Philpott and Baby Gabe Bledsoe, due in March; sister, Mary Henry of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Irma Sandidge; best friend, Nadine Horton; special stepbrother, Ervin Collings; special nieces, Diana Crain and husband, Eddie, and Rita McKenzie; several nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be from 12-2:00 pm on Friday, November 9th at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Salley officiating.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Darryl Sandidge, Larry Carrier, Kevin Bennett, Jason Bledsoe, Jason Philpott and Greg Bennett.
We also want to extend a special thanks to Nancy Osborne, Allison Sharp and Courtney Carroll of Amedisys, to her doctors and staff: Dr. Judith White, Dr. Duc Vu, Dr. Matthew Riggins, Dr. Robert McQueen, Dr. Mirle Girrish, Dr. Malcolm Matthews, Dr. Steven Hopkins, and to all the doctors and nurses who cared for her at Indian Path Medical Center, especially her nurse Ashley for her love and care during Mom's final hours. We appreciate the excellent loving care you gave our Mom very much.
