Ruby Annette Short

How do you begin to find the words to say goodbye to your Mother?   You start by knowing how precious the thought of running to Jesus must feel, and how any loved one should want that very thing.  Especially a daughter, for her Mother.   You find peace knowing she is now at peace and in the arms of our Heavenly Father joining our earthly father, George Frank Short.

Mom has had health issues for years, chronic in Hospice for the last two years.  She has fought so hard, and done so much suffering,  that she so deserved to be welcomed home by our savior.  And today Ruby Annette Short passed peacefully at home with her family by her side.

Mom was amazing!  And she never even knew it.  She was so smart in her own special way.  She was so loved by kids of all ages from generation to generation.  Her nieces and nephews loved to spend time at Ruby Duby’s house.  Over the years many have lived with her. Everyone enjoyed her funny stories, made up ghost tales, caring and loving ways, down home southern cooking, just a loving godly home.  She was so creative with coming up with ways to entertain, not only children, but adults too with storytelling.  She always had her tv going with gospel singing. The Gaithers was by far one of her favorites, but she loved to listen to her gospel music.

She was a card shark.   You could play cards with her for hours.   Even if you didn’t know how to play, you would love the entertainment she brought to the table.  She had a light that shined with a gift of laughter to all she touched.  Rummy, skit skat, or go fish!

Oh how she loved her family, and they loved her.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Jeannie Goodman, (deceased husband Will Goodman); grandchildren Hannah Goodman, and fiancé Grant Taylor and Noah Goodman; son, Dennis Housewright and wife; Bethany; grandchildren, Kayla, Hunter and Elijah Housewright; siblings, Beulah Jessee McDavid and husband, Alvin, Faye Coffman and husband, Nolan, Judy Meeks and husband, Charles, Angie Tonker and husband, Carl, Pat Barrett and husband, Buddie,
Mary Joe Kinsler and husband, Elvin, Mae Johnson and husband, Harris Ruth Dove and husband, Charles, Roy Coffey and wife, Beverly, Richard Coffey and wife, Wanda, EJ Coffey and wife, Terri, and Bill Coffey and wife, Goldie; and a multitude of niece and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.   All that love and adore her, and she loved just as much in return.

She taught us all so much about how to truly live life. She taught me about finding the joy of the moment.  And she was a fighter.  I come to realize that my Mother was one of the strongest women that I will ever know.   It is sad that we always have to learn so late in life, just how much a daughter is like her Mother.

Thank you for all you did from near and far to help enrich Mom’s life.  Thank you for loving her, and for never forgetting her!  For I promise, she loved you too!
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Springdale Baptist Church.

Special thanks to:  Springdale Baptist Church for hosting Celebration of Life, Greystone Nursing Facility, and Amedisys Hospice, for taking such good care of her.   She always felt loved by both organizations and we knew she was in very good hands.   Now we know, she is in the hands of our Lord and Savior.
