Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.
God called for Ruby Hale Strickler, 90, of Kingsport, to come home and she answered on Tuesday, February 26th at her home. She was born in Washington County on April 12, 1922 to the late Nathan G. and Pearl Ethel Chase Hale and lived most of her life in Sullivan County. Ruby worked as an admitting clerk with Holston Valley and as a secretary for Robert E. Kerns with State Farm Insurance before retiring in 1993. She was a member of Madeconia Freewill Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the choir. Ruby was an active member of the Joyful Hearts Organization serving as president and a member of W.P.O. sponsored by Oak Hill Funeral Homes. She was a faithful Christian servant, along with her late husband, Rev. Hubert Strickler, in ministry at several churches in the Kingsport, Church Hill and Surgoinsville areas.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Hubert W. Strickler, two sisters, Ora Cox and Onedia Bowser, and brother, Reed Hale.
Ruby is survived by two daughters, Ethyl Jane Christian and husband, Donald of Kingsport, and Carolyn Lee Larkin and husband, Eddie of Church Hill; granddaughter, Michele Ketron of Kingsport; grandson, Gregory Larkin of Church Hill; two great-granddaughters, Emilee Ketron and Jessica Larkin; brother, Martin Hale and wife, Dora Mae of Jonesborough; sisters-in-law, Betty Hale and Ilene Strickler of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Emogene Hall.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm with Rev. Todd Jennings and Rev. Mark Ball officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Greg Larkin, Lee Bowser, David Hale, Wade Cox, S.G. Cox, Guy Strickler, Jr., Chris Bridwell, Jack Isenberg and Charles Isenberg.
