Ruby Carter Zimmerman, 84, of Kingsport passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born June 9, 1925 in Appalachia, VA, and had lived in Kingsport for most of her life. Ruby was a beautician for 40 years, and she was a member of Fort Robinson Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook. Ruby made a point of always reaching out to help others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Zimmerman; a daughter, Flora Lee Bailey; and two sisters, Mary Graham and Frances Malone.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn and husband Jerry Hale of Lebanon, VA; six grandchildren, Davada and husband Stanley Waycaster of Kingsport, Helen Stallard of Kingsport, Rev. Dorvin Bailey of Crawfordsville, IN, Teresa Hale of Abingdon, VA, Michael and wife Angel Hale of Lebanon, VA, and Tracy Hale of Lebanon, VA; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Adams and Betty Paul of Kingsport; and one brother, A.R. "Buster" and wife Mary Ann Carter of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Saturday April 10, 2010 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will be at 7 pm Saturday with Pastor. Jeff Wallen and Rev. Frank Proffitt officiating. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park.
